Like most young men, Philip has a heart full of hopes and dreams. These include the most basic things like just hanging out with friends to, eventually, living as independently as possible. As far as his long range plans go, there is hope on the horizon. At the present time there are very few housing options for adults with special needs. |

However, the United Methodist Conference of South Carolina has committed to address this critical issue by sponsoring Aldersgate, a special needs housing ministry . It is Philip’s hope to ultimately live with his peers in an Aldersgate home. To help make this dream a reality, Philip has decided to donate a portion of his proceeds from his art sales to Aldersgate. |
Another way Philip is contributing is through a program called Aldersgate Angels. This idea was developed by Reverend Stephen Taylor, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sumter who serves on the statewide board for Aldersgate. An Aldersgate Angel is someone who supports the ministry with a contribution of $24 per month. Each Aldersgate Angel contributor will receive an angel lapel pin and, every month, they’ll also get an angel note card with one of Philip’s original designs on the front. The money raised by the Angels program will go into the general operating budget to run and maintain the South Carolina group homes. In the words of Rev. Taylor “Many angels will make for many secure homes for our special needs adults.” For more information on Aldersgate Angels write to Rev. Taylor at: taylor@trinityumcsumter.org.
